Upcoming Online Workshops

The Art of the Notan
February 18 & 25

Each session is 2 hours
long from 2 to 4 pm EST.

$250 USD

The root of good compositions and practice.

The Notan (Nōtan) refers to the relationship between positive and negative space, and in composition, the connection between shape and background. In this 2 day online workshop,
I will demonstrate how to utilize this practice to enhance compositions and how the practice can be extended into color as well.

I will be using ink, pastel, and oils but students are welcomed to use their preferred medium. .

We will be working with a live model and photo references for both short and long poses.

Each session is 2 hours from 2 to 4 pm EST via Zoom. I will be recording the sessions for later reference but do encourage students to be as present as possible during class and not depend too much on the recordings. Group dynamics and a sense of community is of importance and I feel this sometimes gets lost within the virtual world.

One week prior to our first session I will invite you to join a informal meet and greet via Zoom at 2 pm EST to go over in more detail materials and concepts about the workshop that are important. This session will be recorded if you can't attend.

Critiques for both online course will be provided during class and through email. Please contact me at camposmartin030@gmail.com (or the register button below ) with any questions.

Abstracting the Figure
February 14, 21, & 28

Each session is 2 hours
long from 2 to 4 pm EST.

$300 USD

This 3 day online workshop goes beyond basic anatomy and figurative painting to explore the potential of deconstruction and abstraction into your work. The figure will be used as either a starting point or a reference hidden within the mark-making, breaking away from the traditional form.

I will be using oil paint, but students are welcomed to use the medium of their choice. We will be working with a live model and photo references for both short and long poses.

Medium: Dry pastels.
Workshop open to all levels .

An exciting new opportunity to study in Paris with the Paris Academie! In this intensive three-day workshop, students will explore a pragmatic and instinctive approach to the human form. At the boundary between realism and expression, we will work on intuitive and visceral responses, examining the relationship between space and figure.

The themes explored will include the behavior of the line, early gestural responses, and the tension between the figure and space. This expressive approach will help students create strong and evocative representations of the human form.
